Duane Breitling was elected to the Board of Commissioners in 2018.  His portfolios include Roads and Bridges, Planning, Weed Control, Vector Control and Water Resource Boards.  Current committee assignments include the County Park Board, Road Advisory Committee, Personnel Overview Committee, Planning Committee and Water Resource Boards. He also serves on the Metropolitan Council of Governments, Lake Agassiz Regional Council, Metro Flood Diversion Lands Committee, Flood Sales Tax Committee, Flood Buyout Program Committee and an alternate member of the Metro Flood Diversion Authority.  

Breitling was born in North Dakota. He attended grade and junior high school in Jamestown, North Dakota, and attended high school in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He attended college at William and Mary in Norfolk, Virginia, and the University of North Dakota, where he graduated from law school. He and his wife Mary Jane live in West Fargo and have four adult children.

Breitling was admitted to the North Dakota Bar in 1965 and Minnesota Bar in 1984. He is past president of the Cass County Bar Association and past member of the North Dakota State Bar Association Board of Directors.

Duane has served as the president of the Maple River Golf Club, president of the West Fargo Rotary Club, and has provided volunteer legal services to the West Fargo Fire Department, West Fargo Hockey Association, and other civic groups.
