Commissioner Chad M. Peterson was elected to the Board of Commissioners in 2012, and he currently serves as Chairman.  His portfolios include Administration, Buildings and Grounds, Human Resources and the Finance Office. Current committee assignments include the County Park Board, Road Advisory Committee, Personnel Overview Committee, and Building Committee. He also serves on the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corporation Board, Metro Flood Diversion Authority, Metro Flood Diversion Authority Finance Committee, and the Red River Regional Dispatch Center Authority Board.

Prior to his election, Peterson was appointed and served on a number of public and private boards including, but not limited to the following: Cass County Planning Commission (2001-2012); Cass County Park Board (2001-2012); Cass County School Reorganization (2001-present); Cass County Governance Board (2005-2006); Fargo Board of Adjustment Member (2004-2012); and North Dakota Community Foundation Board Member (1998-2013).

Peterson is active in statewide policy and sits on the North Dakota County Commissioner Association Board of Directors and has been a member of the NDACo Legislative Committee since his election.  Peterson is also active nationally and serves on the NACo Rural Action Caucus and Justice and Public Safety Committee.

Peterson is married, has one child, and is a lifelong Cass County resident. He graduated from North Dakota State University and holds a Bachelor of Architecture.  Mr. Peterson is a small business owner and currently owns a number of small businesses, including Northern Plains Design, LLC.
