The Cass County Emergency Management department, with the assistance of Lake Agassiz Development Group, has begun the process of updating the county’s Multi-Jurisdictional Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan.
This plan is a community-driven, living document that assesses the natural hazards and risks that affect each city in the county and then lays out the goals and priorities that will mitigate the adverse effects of disasters. The mitigation strategy defined therein will contain action steps that are cost-effective, technically feasible, environmentally sound, and targets limited resources towards impactful investments. In order for the county and it cities to receive Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant funds for mitigation-related projects, an up-to-date multi-hazard mitigation plan must be prepared and adopted.
Input from residents and stakeholders is critical for the success of this effort. Therefore, two informational sessions will be held to describe the purpose of the plan and to gather input on past performance of mitigation activities and the strategy moving forward. The first session will be held at the Casselton Auditorium, 702 1st St N, Casselton, ND on Wednesday, October 3 starting at 7:00 p.m. The second session will be held at Northport Library community room on Thursday, October 4 starting at 6:00 p.m. If attendees need special accommodations, please call Mitch Calkins at 701-235-1197.
